페이스북 메시지 원문

  • Yung Hee Kim

    Dear Ofm Korean Province,

  • I hope you are well.
  • I am writing to let you know about my renewed efforts to get my birth family search story (and pictures) before the eyes of Koreans all over the world. Recently, I have established a new website,http://redpantsnoshoes.com, where all my search information is consolidated. I am also in the process of making a personal appeal by email to various Korean churches, national/international Korean groups and associations, Korean news media, Korean-American politicians, Korean governmental organizations, and many Korean individuals in an effort to encourage as many Koreans as possible to spread word of my search to as many other Koreans as possible.

This is the email I hope to get circulating amongst Koreans all over the world:

    ____________________________________________________________
Subject: Korean Child (found October 1973 in 영등포구) Looking for Family

    Dear Sir or Madam,

On October 26, 1973 I was found by the police in Yeongdeungpo Gu
1973년 10월 26일에 저는 서울근교에서 영등포 경찰서 경찰관에 의해 발견되었습니다

...wearing red pants and no shoes.
발견당시에 붉은 바지를 입고 맨발인 상태였습니다.

I do not know if I was lost, or wandered off, or was kidnapped, or given up willingly.
제가 길을 잃었는지,동행하는 사람과 떨어져 헤매었는지, 유괴되었는지, 유기되었는지는 잘 모르겠습니다.

  • I am desperately searching for my biological Korean family because I do not have any memories of how or why we came to be separated. Unfortunately I have no information to lead me in my search. Spending almost 40 years of my life without my family, language, and cultural identity has left me with much grief and many questions. It is my deepest wish that my family know that I have been looking for them, that I am alive, and that I am interested in reuniting.

  • My story and pictures have run in Korean newspapers and websites. I have been featured on Korean television and radio. In 2012, I visited Korea for the first time (since I left in 1974) to visit my adoption agency and the country where I was born. I maintain a website, blog, Facebook account, Twitter account, Kakao account and have created a video on YouTube all in hopes of getting information of my search out into the world. So far only 2 individuals have come forward (one in Korea and the other in the U.S.) to compare their DNA samples with mine, but no matches were made.

Since the 1950s, Korea has been sending children to other countries for international adoption. There are approximately 200,000 children who have grown up without any information about their identity, birth or native culture. Less than 3% of these 200,000 have successfully been reunited with their families due in large part to lack of or incomplete paperwork, missing/destroyed paperwork or falsified paperwork.

I have no information about my origins (no birth name, no birth date, no place of birth, etc.), so I am making every effort I can to get my story and pictures seen by Koreans all over the world. I have no idea where in the world my family is living or if my mother and father are still alive. I am praying that someone will remember my face or any detail concerning where or when I was found.

I am writing to make a personal appeal to you for your help in getting my story and pictures before the eyes of every Korean person on this Earth. I specifically need help getting my information to older Koreans (particularly in their 50s or older) who could potentially be my parents or know them. I do not know the Korean language, which also limits how far I can spread word of my search.

    Please help my search by:

    1. Forwarding this email to every Korean person you know
sharing details with immediate family, friends, and neighbors (by word of mouth or email or letter)
    2. Spreading the word among your church (by word of mouth, newsletter or program brochure or website and to the your national church association?)
    3. Getting my story out among your employer as well as volunteer and /or professional organization (company newsletter, bulletin board or website)
    4. Encouraging the media to carry my story (do you have a contact in the local or international news industry or know someone who does?)
    5. Publishing my information on your personal or professional website or blog or newsletter
    6. Utilizing Facebook, Twitter and KakaoTalk/Story, Daum, Naver, Wikitree, etc. to get my information all over the Internet
~Be creative and relentless in your efforts~

Please visit my various social media sites and follow me, subscribe or friend me and pass along my story to others:

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need any further information. I currently reside in Fairfax, Virginia (U.S.A.) with my husband and two children (a 16 month old son and a 3.5 year old daughter).

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this email. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

With sincerest thanks and hopeful heart,
    Ms. Yung Hee KIM
(*name given to me at the Korean orphanage in 1973)

I am writing again to ask for your help. Please spread word to your family and friends, to colleagues and co-workers, to your church congregation and to any civic/professional/national organizations with which you are associated. Perhaps you would consider placing a link (http://redpantsnoshoes.com/?page_id=187) on your personal website or blog if you have one? Also, if you provide or recommend email addresses for any Korean groups or organizations that may also be willing to help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your support.

    Warm regards,
    Yung Hee KIM
